Drug Misuse Research Division (Health Research Board)
The Drug Misuse Research Division (DMRD) of the Health Research Board (HRB) is involved in research and information gathering and dissemination on drugs and their misuse in Ireland. It is the designated National Focal Point reporting to Europe's drug agency, the EMCDDA.

The DMRD oversees the maintenance and development of the National Drug Treatment Reporting System (NDTRS) which collects and publishes data on treated drug misuse in Ireland.

The DMRD hosts the National Documentation Centre on Drug Use which provides information and research on drug misuse in Ireland and internationally for policy-makers, service providers,researchers, community groups and the interested public.

Combat Poverty Agency
Combat Poverty Agency, dedicated to advising on ways to prevent and eliminate poverty and social exclusion. The Agency ran a two-year programme between 1997 and 1999 with seven local groups working with drug users and their families in the community called "Drugs, Poverty and Policy". Findings are available on the website.

Drugs Education and Prevention Information Service (DEPIS)
A service commissioned by the Department of Health (UK) which provides information about drug education and prevention projects and resources for those working with children and young people and their parents/carers. EMCDDA

The website of the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA). The EU drugs agency, aims to provide objective, reliable and comparable information at European level concerning drugs and drug addiction and their consequences.

The EMCDDA has a comprehensive printed publications programme targeting a wide range of audiences, including EU, national and regional policy-makers, scientists and academics, practitioners in the drugs field, the media and the general public. Publications include the Annual Report on the state of the drugs problem in the European Union and the General Report of activities, and two periodicals - a bimonthly newsletter, Drugnet Europe, and a bimonthly series of policy briefings entitled Drugs in focus. The National reports (PDF files) produced annually by the REITOX national focal points are also available.

Part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) the principal biomedical and behavioural research agency of the United States Government, component of US Department of Health and Human Services.

Drug Abuse Treatment Outcome Studies
Drug Abuse Treatment Outcome Studies that have been ongoing over the last few years. 10,000 patients were recruited between 1991, 1993 across 11 cities. Follow up was at one year and five-year post discharge. Essentially, retention in treatment predicts outcomes for the individual. Early engagement, programme participation and therapeutic relationships were all indicators of outcomes. The quality of the intervention, calibre and characteristics of staff, respect and dignity of the individual whilst engaged with the service were also indicators of outcomes.
