Overview of drug prevalence in Ireland

Research brief:
To provide an overview of the prevalence of opiate and non-opiate drug use in Ireland using existing data sets.

Tender awarded to:
Dr Gemma Cox of the Addiction Research Centre, University of Dublin, Trinity College. A draft document was submitted to the NACD prevalence sub committee, which has been used to develop our research programme.

October 2001

Publication:
Based on this report, the NACD issued a publication in May 2003 "Approaches to Estimating Drug Prevalence in Ireland: an Overview of Methods and Data Sources"

Dissemination: 1,000 copies of the report circulated to key audiences such as interdepartmental group on drugs(IDG), National Drug Strategy Team (NDST), Local and Regional Drug Task Forces, Service Providers and other groups who expressed an interest. A copy of the report is available on the web or from the office.
