Dr. Máirín O Sullivan, Department of Education and Science

Dr. Máirín O Sullivan is a Post-primary Inspector for Social, Personal and Health Education (SPHE) and Chemistry with the Department of Education and Science with responsibilities for managing the Post-primary SPHE Support Service, developing the curriculum for SPHE, advising on and disseminating good practice, and inspecting and evaluating the implementation of SPHE in second-level schools.

She holds a primary degree in Chemistry and Mathematics from University College, Dublin and a Ph.D in Biochemistry from Trinity College, Dublin along with a professional qualification in Counselling and Psychotherapy. Her career has incorporated a variety of experiences which have included teaching, working in the State Laboratory as an analytical chemist and then moving to the Department of the Marine as Senior Chemist. In a change of career, she began working with socially marginalized people in the UK and on her return to Ireland, she worked with young people and adults in recovery from drug addiction in both a therapeutic and educational capacity with Merchants Quay Residential Programme and Coolmine Therapeutic Community before joining the Department of Education.
